Revitalizing the Ojibway language is crucial for preserving the rich cultural heritage and identity of Indigenous communities in Algoma, especially after the devastating impacts of residential schools that severely diminished its use. These schools systematically suppressed Indigenous languages and cultures, leading to a significant loss of linguistic heritage. By actively bringing back and nurturing the Ojibway language, we not only honor and heal from this historical trauma but also empower future generations to connect deeply with their roots and traditions. Keeping the language alive is essential for cultural continuity, fostering a sense of pride, and ensuring that the wisdom and stories of our ancestors are passed down authentically. Reclaiming and revitalizing Ojibway is a vital step towards cultural resilience and sovereignty.

For the month of September we are donating a portion of our proceeds to Barbara Nolan, a Local Legend known for spreading the beauty of Ojibway Language.

A little more about Barbara Nolan;

Barbara Nolan spent 4 years of her childhood in Residential school and watched her language diminish over the course of her adolescence. When Barbs children were young she decided to take a stand towards the devastating effects of Residential schools, she started with teaching small groups which lead to larger classes and eventually spoke in Parliament! She is an incredible Local Hero and Malcolm Men is proud to have her as a part of our extended family. Superior service from the ground up

Colin and his crew replaced my shingles over the weekend, after having replaced my attic insulation last summer.

They did such a meticulous job with the insulation,  including the clean up - hiring them for my roof was a no brainer.

I feel for Colin, I am indecisive and a bit persnikety.  Colin made multiple trips to my house, with multiple sample swatches insisting I take my time to make the decision.   It was beautiful being encouraged to take my time with my choice.

Colin was in constant communication with me throughout the process,  giving me updates at every corner.  When the day came for installation,  the crew worked tirelessly for 14 hours, and then returned the next day to finish (my roof was in worse condition than expected and a bunch of the plywood needed to be replaced).  The best part?  They worked around my schedule, I work from home - so quiet is mandatory and not possible while replacing shingles.

Even after the job was done, Colin responded super quickly to me when I reached out with some questions.

I'm so happy with Malcolm Men Contracting that Colin is researching Home Siding options for me, for next year.
